"You can't always get what you want..."

But if you try sometime, you just might find... you get with what you need.

I have been listening to election tweets since before it was officially announced. I have kept quite quiet and opinion less because I like my Tweeple and do not wish to offend anyone. I don't feel that is what Twitter is about. I am certainly not going to get all "up in someones face" just because I don't agree with their political views. They are entitled to their opinion and some of my best friends are of hum.. humm.. "another party".
But on the eve of the election I just wanted to have my say. All at once and all in one place. First I can't have what I want. What I want is a conservative party with Jack Layton, or someone with his charisma, as the leader. I am not a big fan of Harper as a man, but I have to say I like M.I. even less.
I am not a party person. I have voted for different leaders of the "big 3" at different times over the course of my long voting career. My vote changes with the times and I was even partially responsible for Bob Rae's fiasco.
With the end of my job approaching and a hopefully short life of abject poverty (Employment Insurance) looming in my future one would think I would be voting Liberal or NDP, but that is not the case.
My cousin from the U.S.A. calls me a functional Democrat and a government Republican. I don't know what I am here... maybe a small c Conservative. I am very Liberal when it comes to personal freedoms. If you want to marry someone of the same sex, what does it have to do with me, it is between you, your family and your deity if you have one. Same for abortion, etc. I am certainly not going to judge you or change my personal opinion of you because of something you did or do in your private life. I am even a Conservative atheist. However don't make it a big thing where my tax dollars are going to have to support your opinion and don't tell others they don't have the right to think otherwise. That pendulum should be able to swing both ways.
I am however Conservative where spending, crime, immigration and the military are concerned. Wars have to be fought. Where would Hitler be today if we had this same "don't fight it" attitude then. Rape used to be a capital crime that got you either a full life sentence or a death sentence, not a slap on the wrist or small commuted sentence. There used to be a lot less of this kind of crime when people knew something serious would happen if they got caught. Immigration... well I am all for opening my arms to anyone who wants to come here and be Canadian. However if you want to come here to change us into what you left. No! If you came here to blow us up... HELL NO!
So as much as I am not really excited about Harper, and as much as I could use all that spending in my favour... I really believe we need the fiscal belt tightening that the Conservative government will bring. Remember it was under the Conservatives that we rode the recession so  much better than our neighbours. Also I am looking at the big picture and seeing that money put into industry and tax cuts for big business will in the long run get me the job I need to pay those taxes to stop the deficit.
Yeah a politician may end up lying to me but I am a big girl now and it won't be the first time or the last time.
But that's just my opinion.
